Gloomy Eyes (2019)

Headspace Studio/3DAR/Atlas V/ARTE/RYOT

When the sun got tired of humans and decided to hide and never rise again, darkness awoke the dead from their graves.

Directors: Jorge Tereso & Fernando Maldonado

Gloomy Eyes is an animated trilogy in 6DoF (6 Degrees of Freedom) & 3D real time.

Chase the nostalgic and heartwarming story of a zombie boy, Gloomy, and a human girl, Nena. Their star-crossed love might just be the last seed of hope.

Hollywood Reporter: Colin Farrell Talks Tackling First Virtual Reality Project With ‘Gloomy Eyes’

Road to VR: Colin Farrell Narrates VR Series ‘Gloomy Eyes’, Debuting at Sundance 2019

This dollhouse-style experience offered many opportunities to bring depth and detail to this incredible storyworld with sound. Using an audio “LOD” (Level of Detail) approach, many detailed elements are uncovered as you engage more with the story, spatially mixed to add & remove layers in response to your movements.

Combining linear storytelling with a 6DoF experiential design, Gloomy Eyes is a landmark xR project and a favorite of mine.

Sound Design, Mixing

I worked with actor Colin Farrell and directors Jorge Tereso & Fernando Maldonado to craft a powerful performance for the Grave Digger, an empathetic narrator who carries us through this sweet post-apocalyptic love story.

Before the recording session, I provided additional writing to help Tereso & Maldonado’s story shine and, in the studio, conveyed their notes to the talent so the recording session ran efficiently & he could concentrate on his performance.
